A Different Take on Civilisation, Economic History & Cuisine

A Different Take on Civilisation, Economic History & Cuisine

Take three minutes to take a look at this graph….

This is the graph of Covid cases in Uttar Pradesh on the Y Axis versus time. Compare it to this graph below.

The difference is unmistakable. While there has been a clear resurgence of cases in the United States, such resurgence has not been seen in Uttar Pradesh. A health expert based in Madison, Wisconsin has pointed and argued that given that Uttar Pradesh has a population of close to 240 million and given that the number of cases is so low, Covid has effectively been eradicated, thanks to its innovative health measures. He has even compared it on his LinkedIn page to the historic eradications of smallpox & polio. If true, we are seeing something quite unique in our own lifetimes. Note that Covid is a pandemic from which America is still recovering.

Neoliberal economics holds much sway in Western academia today, and it is blind faith in neoliberal economics that has led to the situation that America is in today. As part of a counter to Adam Smithian economics, Anand Manikutty will be writing a food column in Namaste Bharat Magazine.

Working as an economic historian, he walks through recipes from royal kitchens in India while offering a new theory of history. We believe that it offers not only a counter to Adam Smithian economics, but also a counter to the Clash of Civilisation thesis. It is a rival to the ideas expressed in Francis Fukuyama’s “The End of History and The Last Man.” For more on this column, watch this space!
