Bhopal, 16 November: The second day of the fourth chapter of Vishwarang witnessed a programme in the loving memory of Annapurna Devi. Her disciple and the renowned flute player Nityanand Haldipurkar and well-known playback singer Chhaya Ganguly participated in the event. While the Programme Officer of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Chitra Sharma, facilitated the participants, art thinker-critic Vinay Upadhyay hosted the performances.
Remembering Maa Annapurna Devi, flute player Nityanand Haldipurkar said he would dedicate his performance to his Guru. He further said one could not compare the level of Maa Annapurna Devi’s musical prowess.
Meanwhile, playback singer Chhaya Ganguly said she got associated with Annapurna Devi during her early college days. Calling Mother Annapurna Devi as Sur Tapaswini, she enthralled the audience with her ‘Satsang’.
For the unversed, Annapurna Devi was a master at playing Surbahar, a musical instrument. Apart from this, she was well-known for her recitation of Malkauns Raag. Many note that during her performance, the trees outside the house used to shake vigorously. Legendary flute player Hariprasad Chaurasia and sitar player Ravi Shankar were Annapurna Devi’s disciples, among many.
Music’s Dharma Is To Inculcate Patience: Yatindra Mishra
The second session of Day 2 saw a panel discussion on the topic ‘The Dharma Of Music’. Giving the audience a beautiful insight into the same were Dhrupad singer Umakant Gundecha, playback singer and AIR presenter Chhaya Ganguly and music scholar-composer of Lata Surgatha, Yatindra Mishra. Santosh Choubey participated in the discussion as the chairman, Leeladhar Mandloi hosted it at the request of Vinay Upadhyay while he anchored the main event. Both the conductors asked relevant questions to the speakers, allowing the audience to understand the depth of the vital topic.
In the session, which ran for about one and a half hours, Yatindra Mishra said that the dharma of music is to impart patience and humility. He also added that music should provide an opportunity to better ourselves and inspire us to be happy. While recalling personalities like Pannalal Ghosh, Tansen, Haridas, Abdul Karim Khan, Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Paramahansa, and Bismillah Khan, Chhaya Ganguly said that music help in the attainment of God and spiritual consciousness.
Meanwhile, Umakant Gundecha opined, “music has no religion. It is only a medium. Dharma belongs to the doer. The most important thing is the intention with which the musician is composing music. Only that would bring out the musician’s true nature.”
Mother-In-Law-Daughter-In-Law Duo Brings Life To Kabir’s Dohas
The cultural evening started with ‘Kabir Gayan’ by Geeta Parag and the group that included her mother-in-law Leela Parag. The duo presented the musical rendition of “Sant Dware Aaya Re Jodiya Dono Hath…”, “Ram Ras Pe Le Na Mere Bhai…,” “Ram Naam Tu Le Le Bande, Ram Naam Se Tar Jayega…,” “Mhari Sada Ram Ras Bhini Chadar Jhini…,” “Kya Leke Aaya Jagat Mein.” Singer Leela Parag on Manjira, Tannu Parag on Harmonium, Santosh Saroliya on Violin and Ram Sanweriya on Dholak added to the powerful rendition.
Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra Presents Ramayana In A New Flavour
The main attraction of the evening was the presentation of Ramayana by Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra based on Goswami Tulsidas’ Ramcharitmanas. The artists performed the main episodes of Ramayana through dance drama. The mega-performance included folk dandiya, Indian classical, and tribal dance. Ram’s birth, Tadka Vadh, Sita Swayamvar, Kaikeyi Vardan, Surpanakha, Sita Haran, Shabari Bhakti, Lanka Dahan, Ram-Ravana Yudh, Sita Agnipareeksha, and Shri Ram’s coronation, among many other episodes of Ramayana were enacted on the stage. The highlight of the show was the representation of Ravana through Kathakali dance.
Directed by Shobha Deepak Singh, Raj Kumar Sharma, Anurag Jha, Tullu Murmu, Souvik Roy, Swapna Majumdar, Neeraj, Neeraj Malik, Akash Bose, Simran, Rituparna, Madhu Negi, and Suchita Majumdar steered the show. Meanwhile, Shashidharan Nair, Swapna Mazumdar, Manohar Singh, Abhinav Chaturvedi, Shanti Sharma, Biswajit Roy Chowdhury, Jwala Prasad, Jitendra Singh, Indu Prakash, Anuradha Nirala, Hameed, Manjit Singh, Mahesh Pandey, Arvind Kumar, Nilabh, Shobha Deepak Singh, Monica Jatwani, Laxmi Kohli, Deepak Kumar, Nand Kumar, Sohan Lal, and Arvind Pandey were behind the stage.
Jitendra Litoria, President of Khadi Gramudyog, was the Chief Guest of the programme. Chairman of MP Private University Regulatory Commission, Prof Bharat Sharan Singh, graced the occasion as the Special Guest.
