The Gallery Dotwalk achieved yet another artistic milestone with the preview of ‘Polyphonies in Distance’ at Golf Course Road in Gurugram
Amidst relaxed camaraderie over cocktail, various connoisseurs, art collectors, and many from diverse walks of life admired the rare exhibition of paintings, sculptures, installations and new media works at the Gallery Dotwalk, enlivening the artistic temper. This art show is open for public view till September 3, 2023.
Talking about how the exhibition took shape, the art founder and director, Sreejith said, “One and a half years ago, when we were architecting the founding pillars of Dotwalk, one of the pertinent thoughts that came up was on the differentiating factors that would make us stand out as none would want yet another run of the mill art gallery. That brought us to a collective decision that we might not foray into too much stuff, rather we get into only such stuff where we can make a difference.”
“Polyphonies in Distance is our seventh show in the last one and a half years. Each time we try our best to get into the nuances of different facets of the show—be it the selection of artists and works, display arrangements, creatives, catalogue, preview event and so on—
some worked and some didn’t. Every show is like a new baby for me. And when Sibdas Sengupta, the curator of the show, rings me up multiple times a day to discuss each and every aspect of the show, the conversation gives a sense of hope that we would be doing something very different this time.”

About the ‘Polyphonies in Distance’ exhibits by few most celebrated contemporary artists along with some emerging artists from India was conceived, Sreejith reminisces that Sibdas has been delving on his curatorial thoughts around distance and time for the past six months and has been in constant touch with the select 12 artists to weave together a seamless narrative. Artistic freedom in a show starts from the freedom that the curator enjoys to transform the independent curatorial thought to actions on the ground. “So, the preview of this or any other Dotwalk show, it’s me who is more excited to watch it, from the distance as an art enthusiast as well as from close quarters as a team member,” says Sreejith.
The curatorial premise of the ‘Polyphonies in Distance’ exhibition, says Sibdas Sengupta, “is primarily centred around incorporating the idea of Distance and Passage of Time through different artistic practices and in their modes of artistic thinking.”

Showcasing the work of 12 artists – Arpita Akhanda, Tahsin Akhtar, Veda Thozhur Kolleri, Ranbir Kaleka, Arunkumar HG, Deepanshu Joshi, Jagannath Panda, Pinaki Ranjan Mohanty, Julius Das, Unnikrishnan. C, Amjum Rizve and Sajith CN at the ‘Polyphonies in Distance’ exhibition, the Dotwalk has conducted six shows in the first year of its operations, including the participation at India Art Fair 2023.

The christening of the gallery has an interesting story behind it. Inspired by the legendary artist Paul Klee’s thoughtful quote ‘A line is a dot that went for a walk’, Sreejith came up with the name ‘Dotwalk’ for his art gallery. During the last two decades of his career as a gallerist, the young Sreejith has seen changing face of the Indian art from the close quarters and experiences from his journey are becoming pillars in shaping up the charter of this contemporary art gallery. Dotwalk opened its flagship gallery at Gurugram, Delhi NCR in April 2022.
