This issue of Namaste Bharat focusing on India and Canada and the role of the Indian diaspora in Canada in improving bilateral relationships and people-to-people contact, is an attempt to initiate greater understanding between the peoples of both nations. This issue, published in association with the Bharat Centre of Canada (BCC), an independent non-partisan policy think tank, focuses on understanding contemporary India and Canada-India relations. The BCC’s objective is to bring a new vision and innovative ideas to working with its Indian and Canadian counterparts. The BCC looks forward to connecting with policymakers, academics, scholars, researchers, practitioners, diplomats of both India and Canada, and establishing collaborations that overcome gaps and challenges. The BCC maintains an interdisciplinary approach and provides an understanding of how to enhance the scope of cooperation and engagement between the two nations. The BCC aims to focus on the existing collaborations and the factors that can underpin success, while identifying the bottlenecks. The BCC also takes cognisance of future possibilities and emerging opportunities. It promotes quality research and in-depth studies and is a platform for dialogue to promote initiatives that further the cause of peace and global harmony. With a team of dedicated academics, professionals and community members, this policy think tank works closely with local partners and associates in India, Canada and other countries to fulfil its stated objectives.
This publication was possible due to the support and encouragement of academics, scholars, diplomats and practitioners from both India and Canada, who contributed to this issue. I acknowledge the great support provided by my colleagues in India and Canada, without their cooperation and support this issue would not have been possible. I sincerely thank the Consulate General of India in Toronto for their contribution. Last but not least, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the editorial team of the Bharat Centre of Canada and Namaste Bharat for their support. It is entirely due to all the contributors and team members’ wholehearted association and assistance that this issue of Namaste Bharat focusing on India-Canada has taken shape. I hope readers find this issue useful, thought-provoking and worthwhile.
