Recently, four prominent Indian-Americans have been appointed to key positions in the US House of Representatives, reflecting the growing influence of the Indian-American community in US politics.
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal was named the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee’s panel on Immigration, making her the first immigrant to serve in a leadership role for the subcommittee. On the other hand, Congressman Ami Bera has been appointed as a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Meanwhile, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has been named the ranking member of a newly created House committee on China, which will examine various aspects of Chinese behavior and its threat to the US and the world. Finally, Congressman Ro Khanna has also been made a member of this committee.
In a statement, Jayapal said she was honored and humbled to serve as the ranking member of the House Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement. Bera stated that he takes seriously his new role on the House Intelligence Committee and looks forward to working with committee members to ensure the intelligence agencies are operating effectively to keep the nation safe.
Krishnamoorthi expressed gratitude for being appointed as the ranking member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). He stated that the CCP poses serious economic and security threats to the US and democracy and prosperity across the globe, and he looks forward to working with his colleagues in both parties to counteract the CCP’s escalating aggression.
