US President Joe Biden nominated former Mastercard CEO Ajay Banga as World Bank president for his expertise in handling global challenges including climate change. His appointment is surely an opportunity for the USA to take leadership position of the 189-nation poverty reduction agency which is committed to work for the welfare of less-wealthy nations but has often been accused for being hostile to undeveloped nations.
It came following Donald Trump appointee David Malpass’ decision to step down well before his tenure (April 2024).
