Hiroshima: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his three-day visit to Hiroshima beginning May 19 to attend the annual G7 summit, sent out a powerful message to the public that India is in strong favour of stability and peace. Soon after his arrival here, Modi unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi, an inspirational figure for the whole world when it comes to peace and non-violence.
The visit paved the way for further strengthening relations between India and Japan.
PM Modi indicated that Hiroshima is a symbol of peace, from where G7 would send a strong message against nuclear weapons. Moreover, India as the host of G20 will address the pressing global challenges with strong cooperation from G7 members. Finally, he expressed his belief that Japan would lead the international community in resolving global issues.
Talking about the geopolitical tension and disruption of food and energy supply chain, Modi said a need has arisen to cooperate with the countries who have these.
Regarding the Russian aggression against Ukraine, he emphasized that India strongly supported an international order based on respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Earlier this year, the Japanese public was not pleased with the Indian government’s seeming neutrality on Russian aggression. However, Modi, during his meeting with President Zelensky of Ukraine, promised that India definitely would find a way forward on the basis of human values and humanity, which touched the hearts of common Japanese people who believe in peace.
India’s role as a Quad member as well as a host of G20 illustrates the firm leadership quality of PM Modi, and Japan, along with the rest of the world, has recognized that India will play a crucial role in world order.
